Enjoy your garden by selecting and maintaining your furniture…

With summer around the corner, you’ve bought some new garden furniture to impress but have no idea how to maintain it… Today we are going to be talk about how to properly maintain your garden furniture so you can keep it in good nick for next summer!
These tips and tricks are suitable for all garden furniture made from plastic, hardwood, softwood and metal materials. The maintenance of a piece of furniture completely depends on the furniture’s material. In this guide we will be talking about the four most common kinds of material.

Plastic furniture by far is the easiest to maintain. Just make sure to clean it regularly to avoid water marks on the plastic. This should be especially done with light coloured or white plastic furniture to avoid discolouration or yellowing of the plastic.
The only downside to using plastic furniture is if it is left out in the cold weather or very hot weather for extended periods of time it can become brittle, so it is best to store it immediately after using them with a protective cover for those cold winter months!

Hardwood furniture is one of the more complex materials to clean and maintain but it is also the more durable. Some of the most common of the hardwoods would be teak, courbaril, roble, cumaru, iroko and eucalyptus, what are all contain high levels in natural oils, making them weather resistant!
The only maintenance that is required on is to wash off any dirt or algae that may be accumulating from it being in a damp space. This should only need to be done a couple times a year if the wood you have bought is of good quality!
A good piece of advice would be to keep the wood away from anything damp to avoid algae from growing on the wood. A protective cover would be a good option.

Softwood furniture is the cheaper but more demanding version of hardwood furniture and requires a bit more attention in the winter months. To keep softwood furniture in good nick it requires regular checks and cleaning with a recommended wood cleaner. Do not use soap and water because this can remove a layer of protective paint or preservative.
Preservative should be added at least twice a year to make sure that the wood stays the same colour and keeps to the same shape as softwood tends to warp when exposed to moisture too often.

Metal furniture needs to be cleaned about once a month, checking for rust and repair it by removing any rust and applying rust preventing paint. Metal furniture should be repainted every 1-2 years to make sure the weather barrier is well maintained. It’s also a good idea to keep a bottle of WD-40 in the shed if it has any joints or fixings that require free movement. I would include oiling the joints in the monthly cleaning of the furniture.
If you follow these simple tips and tricks then you will be able to keep your garden furniture going for years to come!

Not Just For Grown-ups……

It’s not just the grown-ups who can find something at Taylors.

As well as a vast range of Summerhouses, Sheds, Garages and Storage Solutions we also have a range of Playhouses, Games and Vehicles for your little ones. It may well be the ideal time to start looking for something for the summer to keep your little ones amused, especially as the dreaded summer holidays are rapidly approaching!

My KIngdom

My kingdom

One of my favourite things when I was little was my wendy house, it was  very flimsy looking back (it was basically just a push together plastic framework affair with a cover over the top). It wasn’t the grandest of houses but it did have a plastic window and pair of flaps acting as a doorway (it was very similar to the one pictured on the right except mine was vinyl – with the added luxury of a real chimney I might add!). I loved it and spent a lot of time in it with my action figures recreating key scenes from the latest Doctor Who episode or Star Wars movie (that little yellow house was everything from the TARDIS to Jabbas Palace on the inside at various times!).

How times have changed!

We have “Wendy” houses on our site but long gone is the need to weigh them down with rocks and stones on a windy day, also long gone is that searing temperature inside that shot up in the summertime as the hot sun penetrated the plastic covering. The houses available nowadays are often made of wood and have all the luxuries such as real doors and windows, felt roofing and even, in some cases, stairways leading up to a second level (oh to be a child again!).

Swiss Cottage Playhouse

Swiss Cottage Playhouse

We have many Playhouses available on our site starting from as little as £200, we have designs that range from the classic apex style with forward facing window and door all the way up to Swiss Cottages and Dutch Barns. Many of our playhouses can be painted a colour of your choice (quite often more than one colour if need be). We have playhouses that are raised up on a platform with balustrades and ladders which provide safety and are ideal for wannabe pirates or space invaders!

The Jailhouse 8x8

The Jailhouse 8×8

We have a very nice range of Ready Built Playhouses which are very popular, for a set price you can have your building delivered and installed all in one go (depending on your location). This takes all the stress out of frantically trying to build the house while being hassled by a mini Darth Vader who is desperate to get inside his new kingdom to plot universal domination!

These buildings are long lasting , durable and guaranteed to give many years of fun and excitement for your children. Buying one of these can be  a real investment but not just in financial terms, money can increase and decrease in value all the time.

Childhood memories? They are always priceless!!

Have A Sheltered Life With A Kiosk Gazebo

The Kiosk Gazebo Range.

One of our most popular sellers in the past few months is without a doubt our Kiosk Gazebo range.

Gazebos are excellent additions to any garden as they protect against rain and snow while allowing you to enjoy your garden whatever the weather. They are particularly useful if you are hosting a party with many guests where indoor space may be at a premium, another good idea for these structures is to place a dining table underneath to eat your meals outdoors (particularly nice on a pleasant summers evening).

Gazebo 2.80m x 2.80m (9'2 x 9'2)

Gazebo 2.80m x 2.80m (9’2 x 9’2)

A nice feature on the square / rectangular models is the pyramid style roof which comes with the option of different colour shingles (choose from grey, green or red). The supporting posts are manufactured with sturdy wood sourced from a sustainable FSC approved sites and comes pressure treated to protect against rot.

Octagonal Gazebo

Octagonal Gazebo

As well as the standard square / rectangular variety we also have hexagonal and octagonal versions available. The hexagonal and octagonal models each come with attractive diamond lattice work and  a  distinctive slatted roof which creates a decorative centre piece for your garden (not to mention a real talking point too)

Smoking Area

Smoking Shelter

One popular use for the Kiosks is as a smoking shelter for pubs and restaurants, you may see a few of these on your travels if you like to socialise and eat out regularly.

Wooden Bench

Wooden Bench

Whether you are buying for your home garden or business you might be tempted to buy a bench to go under it. We have a vast range of wooden benches on our site, some of which are made by the same manufacturers as the gazebos above.

Garden Lighting at Taylors

Illuminated!

Maybe you could go one step further and buy some attractive lights to illuminate your gazebo at night or possibly even buy a selection of plants to decorate it further?  The possibilities for these wonderful structures is almost limitless.

Whatever you decide please feel more than welcome to send us your pictures of your new decorated gazebo in place!

We look forward to seeing them!!

The Results Are In!!

The Results Are In!!

Over the past week or so the team at Taylors have been pondering, discussing and finally voting for our favourite buildings from three of our main categories. Out of our Summerhouses, Log Cabins and Sheds we have finally come to our top three.

Our candidates for the top garden shed were The Supreme Apex, The Rowlinson Potting Shed and The Supreme Workshop…

Our Top Three

The candidates

These were all selected to be in the top three by measuring their value for money, customer feedback, quality and supplier relations and we are pleased to announce that our winner is….

The Supreme Workshop

Supreme Workshop

Our Winner!!

This building claims the best shed crown mainly due to its sturdy construction and versatility which is helped by the double doors which means that this building can be used to store larger items such as ride on mowers and other large garden machinery. That is assuming of course you are using it for storage, it could be used as a workshop or even a games room if you so wished.

Our top three summerhouses in the running for top spot were the Popular Summerhouse, Prima Fifth Avenue and The Denby Summerhouse

The Top Three Summerhouses

Our Top Three Summerhouses

By measuring their value for money, customer feedback, quality and supplier relations as before we are pleased to announce that our winner is….

The Denby Summerhouse

The Denby Summerhouse

The Denby is our champion!

The Denby was a clear winner for us by a substantial margin, this beast of a summerhouse is a real stand out among our range and some of the feedback we have had from our customers shows that you all feel the same about this magnificent building too!

Our final ballot was for our favourite Log Cabin, once again using the same format as the previous two polls, we came up with our winner. Our candidates were the Daniel Log Cabin, The Wolfgang Log Cabin and the Barbeque Hut.

Our Best Log Cabins

A hard choice to make

We struggled a bit with this as we could not reach an agreement straight away between two of them. After a few heated debates and a re-vote we concluded that our winner for best log cabin had to be…

The Daniel Log Cabin

The Daniel Log cabin

Our eventual winner

One of the best sellers in our entire range, not to mention all of our ranges full stop, The Daniel
was chosen due to its sturdy construction. Another factor which influenced the choice was that we use one of these very buildings as an office in our garden centre, you can see it next to the tills by the exit. This cabin has given us many years of good service and we have always been very fond of it!

The final stage of our election was to decide between our three champions and select what we consider to be the best of the best!  We had the impossible task of selecting just one to be the Taylors Garden Buildings champion for summer 2015.

Yet again we deliberated, pondered and generally racked our brains to make the final big decision, after what seemed like an eternity we had to go with a coalition. It was either that or have a mini riot in our office.

Ladies and gentleman, our joint winners for best Taylors Garden Buildings product of summer 2015 are

The Denby and the Daniel

Our two worthy joint winners are, for the purposes of this vote, going to henceforth be known as The Danby-

THE DANBY

The winners!!

The voting goes on….

As we said the other day, it has been near enough impossible to avoid the general election and the constant stream of party political broadcasts these past few weeks. We decided to do our own fun vote as to which were our best garden buildings.

We picked our favourite 3 sheds based on factors such as features and benefits, supplier support, price value and lead time for delivery.

Now the ballot continues with our three favourite summerhouses.

Our choice for the three best summerhouses in our range are as follows;

1.Popular Summerhouse

2.Prima Fifth Avenue

3.Denby Summerhouse

Popular Summerhouse

This has been a real hit with our customers, the classic design  suits most english gardens and it is available with or popular summerhopusewithout a verandah. There are 6 sizes available in this model from the smaller 5×7 up to the largest at 8×10. The manufacturer of this range of summerhouses deliver and install their buildings to a majority of england and this is all included in the price. This is not only excellent value for money but eliminates the stress and hassle of having to arrange an independent party to assemble the building. It is also delivered and installed on the same day. The cladding on these summerhouses is whitewood tongue and groove boarding with a sturdy rounded and planed frame, this framing is also incorporated in to the roof which is finished off with barge boards and green mineral felt.  The many optional extras (including a generous selection of paint finishes) means that you can create a building to suit your garden decor and reflect your personality in its design.

Prima Fifth Avenue

One of the best features of this model is the pentagonal shape which means it can be placed in any part of your garden including the corner. If you prefer a more non-classic design of building for your garden this one is a real contender and its modern style can be adapted to suit your tastes, primathere is a selection of roof colours to choose from and a choice of chrome or brass fittings. Other options include different colour stains and a choice of three finials (a ball or one of two stylish weather vanes – a witch or cockerel). I have always been a fan of these buildings and the feedback we have received from our customers means that they are all fans too! If you come to our garden centre one of the first buildings you will see is a Prima, that proves just how highly we regard this model.

Denby Summerhouse

Another modern styled building, the Denby has a sturdy shiplap tongue and groove construction over a rounded and planed framework. The interior of this summerhouse is very spacious and the abundance of toughened SONY DSCglass to the front means that it will get a lot of light all through the daylight hours. This building is an outstanding garden feature and comes inclusive of joinery made doors and windows and redwood cladding. The manufacturers of this remarkable building offer a delivery and installation service which is included in the price for many parts of mainland england. This means that you can get the whole package at the click of a button – delivered and built all in one go!

Next time we will take a look at our three top Log Cabins – see you then!

Creating more space with a log cabin

Do you often find yourself thinking about the need for extra space, maybe for a growing family, overnight guests, vast amounts of toys or a quite place to work? You may think that moving to a larger house or building a costly extension are the only answers but could a log cabin be what you’re looking for?

Log cabins are manufactured in a range of different log thicknesses and designs and with the right aftercare and maintenance can last for over 20 years. Choosing the right thickness for your cabin is the key; 28 to 44mm logs are ideal if your cabin is to be used during the warmer months as an extra day room, play room or for all year round storage, whilst 58 to 70mm cabins with insulation can be used all year round, 68 – 70mm log cabins can even be used overnight as a guests rooms.

Many log cabins can be delivered and installed within 4 -5 weeks and without the need for planning permission, depending on their height and the proximity of neighbouring boundaries, making them a relativity cheap and quick alternative to a brick built extension. What’s more, you also get the added benefit of no mess in the house while construction is taking place and if you do choose to move in the future, a log cabin can be dismantled and rebuilt at your new property.

Instructional videos.

A recent addition to many of our listings are instructional videos!

We are all too aware that sometimes the traditional paper variety are just not quite enough – no matter how comprehensive! The same goes of course for the PDF versions that are on a vast majority of our listings, there are times when we just want to actually see somebody doing it. This gives us just that bit of extra confidence when erecting our brand new summerhouse, gazebo , metal shed etc etc.

Take a look at this example, we are sure you will agree that it is very indepth!
